Zephyroth's Software News (UPDATE 2008 Aug 18)

AMD Patcher 0.1 (Coming soon.)

This little application will allow you to patch "*.app", "*.pkg" and "*.mpkg" by droping them on the icon.
The main goal of this app was to retrieve and improved the main code of ASU to patch cpuids and decrypt files without recoding the entire Software Update application.
This is almost done and AMD Patcher should be useful by waiting for the new ASU.

AMD Software Update

This software allow you to install Apple updates (almost) like on a real Mac. Keep in mind that at the moment it's a beta version and make sure to have a test partition before to test it.

Next version of ASU (0.6) (Stand By)
- Added preferences panel (not finished yet) :
---> Scheduler doesn't work.
---> Help isn't added yet.
---> Show installed and modified updates (you can open the log from the panel)
---> Show the last status and date (for modification or installation)
- Added menu to ignore update and reset ignored updates.
- Added menu to choose a package to modify.
- Added menu to choose the download folder.
- Some shell script have been replaced to avoid some errors.
- Some graphics have been modified to respect the real Software Update application.

ASU 0.5
http://rapidshare.com/files/14223731...-Beta.zip.html

- Remove /Library/Updates/* if it contains folders.
- Detect the cpu and change the icon automatically.
- Detect if EFI is installed or not and backup files consequently (need some more work/tests)
- Show description of each packages in your native language.
- Some interface changes.
- Fix the "Preparing download ... " bug
- Ability to update your system to 10.5.3

Auto Patch Daemon

This software lets you use Mac OS without thinking it runs on a pc ... :-)
http://zephyroth.infinitemac.com/Aut...Daemon-0.1.zip

- At the moment only the /Applications folder is checked (And it's far from being nothing)
- You can drop one or multiple apps at a time in the folder (the more apps you will drop, the longer the detection of cpuid will be)
- You can install apps from a hard disk, a dmg or via the Installer (like VMware)
- Info: You have to reboot after installation, and maybe you get an error message about unproper security settings after reboot. (added by naquaada)

About This Mac Modifier

This software lets you modify the About This Mac screen easily.
You can put the image you want and change the CPU and Ram string.

New version of ATMM (0.3)
http://zephyroth.infinitemac.com/Abo...ac%20Modifier/

- Detect if the dropped file is an image or not.
- Automatically resize image to fit correctly in the About This Mac screen.(not correctly)
- Ask for logout if you dropped an image for the change to take effect.
- Some minor interface changes to be closer to the About This Mac screen.

Mac OS X 10.6.3 • 2.8 GHz Intel Core I7 860 • ASUS P7P55D • 2 GB 2 Ghz DDR3 • ATI RADEON XFX 4890 1GB • 2 x Hitachi 160 GB Serial-ATA • PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112 • LaCie Desktop Harddrive 750 GB USB

Here are some information about Zephyroth's Updater:

Removing temporary stuff

The AMD Updater leaves sometimes packages in the temporary folders, f.e. after an AppleScript crash. If there were downloaded a whole updates it can consume a lot harddisk space. To remove them, follow these instructions:

Go to a Finder window, press Alt+Shift+G on a Windows keyboard, Command+Shift+G on a Mac keyboard. A small drawer will pop up beneath the tool bar. Now enter the following path:

/private/var/folders/bs

The folders are invisible, so you have to go in there with this method. Ther you'll find a folder with a weird name, f.e. 'Bgghb6SmG38DYknkEAPGor+++TI' or something like this. You'll see this folder in the AMD Updater's log files, too. Check the folder '-Tmp-'. There could be some update archives with the suffix .tar, maybe also a file 'signature'. You can delete them. On my system I nearly every time have files left in this temporary folder, so take a look at it.

Watch the Downloads folder

You know that the Updates will be downloaded in a directory with the name 'Modified-PKG-' with the date after it. But the updates will be downloaded directly in the Downloads folder. This has a crazy result: The AMD Updater moves ALL package files into it's temporary folder, also the files in sub-directories! So don't keep any .pkg files in the Downloads folder, they will be patched!
But you can use this as an advantage: If you have a package you want to patch, put it into that folder. Keep one Software Update not installed, f.e. the AirPort Utility if you don't need it. Now the Updater downloads it to the Downloads folder and moves it into its temporary folder, including the one you packed into it! Now it patches the downloaded AirPort Utility and your package, and puts it back to the 'Modfied-PKG-xxxxxx' folder. I don't think this was supposed to be, but this is an easy way to patch packages!
