Chameleon 2.0 RC4 open source development has been fast and furious over the past couple of weeks. I've hardly been able to keep track of all of the fixes being developed, but I thought I'd report another leap forward.
With new tweaks to the codebase of the Chameleon 2.0 RC4 bootloader, you can now remove any restart kexts such as OpenHaltRestart.kext or EvOReboot.kext from your /Extra/Extensions folder. The fix was originally developed a few weeks ago by Duvell300 on the Insanelymac forums. You can read more about this development here.
More interestingly, user AsereBLN of the EFI-X forums has wrapped a host of tweaks and code improvements together. He has... [Read More]

Netkas has recently released a new version of his PC EFI (V10.4)
It has the following new abilities:
- GraphicsEnabler now supports Radeon hd 2/3 series too, but only for Leopard
- GraphicsEnabler now sets up bin_image property for all radeon hd cards found in system, should fix 100% fan speed issue
- You can tell GraphicsEnabler(GE) to use custom version of bios(for overcloking/changing fan speed/ etc). Use option -useatirom, and GE will look for bios files in /Extra folder (from root and boot partitions, Extra from root partition has more priority). Place bios files to Extra folder and rename them to this format – ati_XXXX_YYYY.rom, where XXXX – devid, and YYYY – vendor-id, for example rom file for 4850 should be named –

[AppleInsider]
In spite of an ongoing legal dispute with Apple, clone Mac maker Psystar Monday announced plans to license its virtualization technology for Mac OS X to third-party hardware vendors.
The new Psystar OEM Licensing Program will allow Intel machines to run Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. The announcement is a bold move likely to catch the ire of Apple, which plans to start its trial against the Florida-based company in January 2010.
The new program will allow manufacturers to have hardware certified by Psystar, and allows use of the company's Darwin Universal Boot Loader. The software will allow manufacturers to install Snow Leopard by inserting the disc from Apple... [Read More]

Chameleon 2.0 has recently been updated to RC3.
"This RC3 build is a small update to RC2, but we’re providing the long-awaited proper Snow Leopard extensions loading and a few fixes like 1TB+ disk addressing support. There are also some changes have been made to the graphics enabler and to the smbios patcher. Also you can even build the Chameleon sources under 10.6."
New options:
- SMBIOS
Finally you can specify your smbios.plist location using a device selector prefix like “SMBIOS=rd(0,0)/Extra/smbios.plist”.
- VideoROM
You can pass an alternate video ROM image file to the system.
- VBIOS
Using this boolean switch, you can control the injection of your ... [Read More]
