GUID Partition table.
Hi all,
Just trying to get this working for myself and so far I have SL running in a virtual under win7. The problem I have is, that I don't really want to repartiton my whole disk to let me install and it isn't a GUID partiton table. The following quote from the main post seems to indicate that if you download Edge3000's file and use it, you don't have to have a GUID partition table. Is this true because I have used this file and the install still complains about it not being a GUID partiton? Quote:
If this is not really doable, I have seen other info saying you can install to a seperate HDD and then clone the partiton across to a non GUID partitoned HDD. Anyone had any experience of this? Cheers... !m! |

Perfect guide, works like a charm. Except for a little problem. You have to reinstall the BASE SYSTEM from Snow leopard once you boot into it, or else some of the utilities might not work as intended e.g OSx86TOOLS. Once you reinstall the base system your user account turns out to be Standard. To solve this you have to remove the user account and you have to setup user account from the beginning. I m not sure if this problem exists with all of the users, but it would be great to post this under this guide, if someone is having such issues.
To remove user account and get another Admin account. Boot with -s and write exactly whats given below (Capitalization matters) mount -uw / rm var/db/.AppleSetupDone Shutdown -h now Thanks for posting such a wonderful guide ![]() Cheers |

I don't understand what you mean, but what I know is you can install it on to the same hard disk having a different partition (Non GUID) in case you want to dual boot with windows. To do this restore the SL image on to your flash drive thats pretty easy. Once you have done that mount your flash drive Open it up and press ALT+SHIFT+G and navigate to /volumes/[flash drive name]/system/installation/packages and press enter. Paste the file you downloaded (OSinstall.mpkg) and if it asks for replace, just do it. Once your done with that run the setup by double clicking this file and follow the instructions. If its a separate hard drive and a NON GUID partition you should follow the same procedure as given above. If your separate hard drive is GUID partition no need to download and paste the file just install the setup from you Flash drive after restoration. I hope this helps! |

I think I know what my problem is now. I was assuming you could use this method when booting from the flash drive but I now realise you have to do it from inside a currentlly working system. Does anyone know how to do this when you boot from the flash disk? I've used some methods from another site to make the USB drive bootable and tried copying the OSinstall.mpkg to the flash disk after creating it, but on booting, it still won't install due to it insisting the partiton table has to be a GUID partiton table. It also hoses the windows even when I don't actually repartition the hard disk. !m! |

Now, I assume you currently got windows as your default OS, this guide is for those who already got mac or hackintosh working, It would be more easier if you find a distro for your hardware and install it on a small partition and from there you either partition your second hard drive as GUID (If you wish to) or whatever, and run the setup and finish the installation.
Now, my second guess, if you are able to enter the the setup of Snow Leo and you can't detect you hard drive or partition, then its not HFS+ partitioned, now to do that what you have to do is boot into windows and download paragon Backup & Recovery free edition from Cnet and format the partition or hard drive to DOS partition and convert it to hFS+, I guess its 0xAF. Then you will be able to install it to on to your hard drive. I can't understand your what exactly your problem is + the hardware you want to install SL to. |
