no way this can kill your hardware :) the worst it will do is render the HDD unbootable until you fully reformat it :) so make sure you either do it on an external HDD or a seperate HDD so you dont...

yes it causes USB issues, you need to have matching versions so that when you stick something in it is recognised, otherwise you will need to put it in before the system boots for it to recognise it....

i had the same problem, never knew what was...
i had the same problem, never knew what was wrong. it was a problem with a dodgy soundcard kext, i found the only way to fix it was pause itunes close whatever program you have open other then itunes...
