xan, umm...this is something you should consult with eddie11c. I didn't compile the PPF, but do know for a fact that it did work for some people over at IRC. Did you select the appropriate drivers/kexts before you initiated the installation? It can also be that there are other fixes that need to be made to the PPF to see the dvd drive after the install. Can you see the drive in Disk Utility? What about System Profiler?

sys profiler and others cant see the drive. its strange, i installed everything that was needed during the installation.
some told me to reinstall IOATAFamily.kext, i tried some of them but nothing helped. maybe eddie can answer ![]() |

There are 2 main problems with the SB600 support, thats the reason why no one fix works for everyone. For some people AppleOnboardPCATA needs to have the PATA Device ID put in to get past waiting for root device for install. Others need it completely removed and rely on AppleGenericPCATA. If your using an IDE hard drive drive manually settings the bootflag rd=disk#s# where the #'s correspond to your disk and partition you are booting from. It may help if you can post your current drive configuration also. Did you install the VIA-SB chipset drivers during install?

Thats a good explanation. Clarifies what I was pointing out in regards to the chipset. =)

@ eddie11c
first i couldnt install because of the "still waiting for root..." than WinLinMac01 posted me the sb600 ppf patch. after applying the ppf patch i could easily install on my SATA HDD. The best installation out of the box i've ever seen till now. But there is one issue: I can't see and use my DVD Drive (IDE) thats my biggest problem. it has nothing to do with the Harddrives and bootflags. everything runs smooth but without the use of the DVD Drive. any ideas? 💡 Deploy cloud instances seamlessly on DigitalOcean.
