T-Mobile Internet - warning!
Installing the ZTE T-Mobile Mobile Broadband drivers will leave your Snow Leopard system unbootable! If your thinking of getting mobile broadband, make sure it's NOT T-Mobile!!
Here's some solutions:
- Download the kexts attached and install them.
- Reboot your computer with the T-Mobile ZTE dongle plugged in.
- Open System preferences and click "Network"
- In the sidebar, press ZTEUSBModem.
- For the telephone number, type *99#
- For the account name, type "user" (without quotes)
- For password, type "wap" (without quotes)
- Now click the "Advanced..." tab.
- Use the modem vendor as "Generic" and use the model "GPRS (GSM/3G)"
- For the APN: "general.t-mobile.uk" (without quotes, for the UK. Google your country's T-Mobile APN).
- Leave "CID" set to "1".
- Click "OK" and press connect.
- You should now be connected to T-Mobile!
Method 2: (another computer running Mac OS X Leopard is required.)
- Connect a direct ethernet cable between the Leopard computer (Host) and the Snow Leopard computer (Client).
- Go to system prefs and click "Network" (On the client computer)
- Set "Configure IPv4" to "Manually"
- For the IP address, make it "192.168.2.2"
- On the host machine, plug in your T-Mobile ZTE stick and connect using the T-Mobile app.
- Go to system prefs > Sharing (on host)
- Click "Internet Sharing" in the sidebar.
- Make sure "share your connection from:" is set to "ZTEUSBModem" and in the box, check the checkbox "Ethernet adapter (en0".
- Now, on the client computer, go back to the Network pref pane and click "Ethernet". Now set "Configure IPv4" to "Automatically".
--
The host will now assign the client computer an IP address automatically, due to the awesome Internet sharing method within OS X.
--
You should now be connected to the internet!!
I currently use method 2, because for some reason, after doing method 1 and restarting Snow Leopard, it does not detect the modem anymore
Anyway, I hope this has helped some people and given them a warning!
