waiting for root device means a chipset issue this could simply be a master and slave issue with drives or lack of chipset drivers. But without knowing your chipset I cant answer this question. Please dont just post motherboard models please post chipsets on these boards you will get an answers faster

Could be a partition issue
I just completed an install with the same motherboard (btw, awesome disto, LawlessPPC!). I must've re-installed 6-10 times for various reasons, and I'm pretty sure at one point I experienced the "Waiting for root device" message. I believe it happened only after a previous attempt, and I suspect it has to do with a pre-existing partition. What fixed it for me - if I recall correctly - was to delete all partitions on the drive (on another machine, running Windows), then try re-installing OS X.

well im not aware my distro supports sb700. You would need the kext for this chipset which you will find on insanelymac in the drivers section. Then you would have to add this to the dvd image and also to the completed install unless you can do the install via usb which means when you have finished the install you can add the kexts the easy way then tranfer the drive to internal

Hey guys... i've used Lawlessppc's latest to install on my Gigabyte 780G board quite a few times now. If i remember correctly i didn't select any customizations just let it install. i did erase all partitions and then created a GUID formatted disk from Disk Utilities.
I then installed the voodoo kernel and 10.5.5 update. Once done i then added the necessary Kext's / EFI strings to get my graphics and sound working.
