Apple's "Let's Rock" Special Event Recap

Yesterday was a very busy day for Apple with the release of several new products including a redesigned iPod nano and the highly anticipated iTunes 8.
iPod nano
Available in nine vibrant colors, the new fourth generation iPod nano features a sleek new design with a curved aluminum and glass enclosure. It also incorporates Genius technology and features a built-in accelerometer that automatically switches to Cover Flow when rotated and automatically goes into Shuffle mode when lightly shaken. iPod nano (4th generation) comes in 8GB and 16GB models.

iTunes 8
iTunes 8 includes breakthrough Genius technology that, with a single click, lets you automatically create playlists from songs in your music library. iTunes 8 also features new ways of viewing your music and video libraries, and it adds television programs in stunning high definition for sale on the iTunes Store.

iPod touch
The new iPod touch features an amazingly thin contoured metal design, a 3.5-inch widescreen glass display, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi wireless networking, integrated volume control buttons, a built-in speaker for casual listening, a built-in accelerometer and other advanced sensors, and Apple’s revolutionary Multi-Touch interface. Available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB models.

iPod shuffle
The iPod shuffle received a small refresh with a vibrant new colour scheme.

iPod classic
Apple said its iPod classic family of players now consists of just one slimline model in either grey or black. The thicker 160GB model has been discontinued and the thinner 80GB model was upgraded with 50 percent more capacity for the same price tag.

Software updates
Front Row 2.1.6 and MobileMe Control Panel 1.1 for Windows. Both updates contain bug fixes and compatibility with iTunes 8.0, which was also released today along with a new version of QuickTime. A new iPod touch 2.1 firmware update is available through iTunes and adds many of the new features present in the second-generation iPod touch that aren't dictated by hardware choices. This includes the Genius feature for automatically creating a playlist of related music, software-related optimizations to battery life, and a host of additional fixes and other adjustments.
Apple has also posted a QuickTime stream of Steve Jobs' keynote from yesterdays "Lets Rock" event at the Yerba Buena Center.
