Normally the Quicktime installer won't downgrade to a lower version. I can try to remove the installation check, but that's not the way it should be. If I'm using 10.5.6 I can't use Quicktime 7.4.5. It's curious why only me has this problem - except my friends which use the same configuration. I presumed it was the Perian codec, but the problem also occures after a fresh installation.

I attached the X1600 drivers, but maybe its possible to add the Device IDs directly to AppleRadeonX1000.kext, actually only 0x71c21002 is in the list. I'm wondering why nobody tested the second monitor output, ATI cards have two IDs. The device for the second monitor is 71ce on my card. Do you have a link to an EFI string guide?

A nice addon would be a additional setting that all 'Energy saving' options are disabled.

What about the info texts to the PS/2 drivers: Only install one driver? WHat does this mean? Either one PS/2 keyboard or one PS/2 mouse, but not both?

To the look of the DVD: I saw that you changed it a bit, added the iPC name to it and so, mmh. Doesn't look original anymore, especcially the removed license text. You put the info text in it, but the result is the same like in the license text: Nobody reads it because everyone wants to the install menu. Tip: Add a new folder in the installation menu 'Readme files'. This could look like this:

If you write the text in the information fields this would be more informative that an long scrolling info page eveyone skips. But it should be formatted in a way that it fits in the info field.

PCwiz: I was never a fan of 3rd-party software on the main install disc, it is often outdated very soon, and Zephyroth's AMD Utilities are missing. I would recommend to remove them and put them on a second installation image, including the things you removed, like additional speech voices and so on (but no printer drivers). This saves space on the install dvd and a smaller image is easier to download and to update. Additional Fonts could also be moved on this disc.

It is possible to store files in a higher compression ratio or as Intel-only? I never had problems using Xslimmer reduced applications. Blacklisted system programs are Activity Monitor, Mail, Safari, DictionaryViewer (if Apple Dictionary is ment with this). Xcode and Dashcode are blacklisted too.

There are two other things: On various images the installer detected the selected language and select only this language, not all. It wouldn't be neccessary, but nicer (and one possible install problem less). On any image ever the language chooser fails, so if the installation is finished, after the reboot the language is defaulted to English. This would be a real new thing if this issue would be fixed.

So, I found a way to add an EFI String to my system, and my card is faster again, xbench shows over 240 against 220 with ATIinject. And I had to downclock my RAM, ATIiject was measured with DDR 400, EFI with DDR 333. I attached the xbench results, I would be interested in some results of actual nVidia cards (8xxx and 9xxx series?).

But this still solves not the Quicktime problem: QT 7.5.5 needs 113% on my 2.9 GHz Dual-Core Opteron when playing in full screen (1600x1200).

BTW: The iTunes Classic Visualizer needs about 118% with Quicktime 7.4.5 on my system when running in near-fullscreen.

i was able to install the ipc beta perfectly but i got a few issues.. which I'm looking to reslove with some help.
First my wireless card wasn't picked up since I wasnt sure what package use since i have the D-Link Xtreme N PCI Express card. all of the other distros i've used had the package already built-in so i never even had to select the package.

second i selected, nvidia geforce 9800GTX nvinject only since i have a 9800 GTX but now i have artifacts.. but everything else works well on the GPU side

Everytime i try mounting a DMG the pc gives me the grey screen of death.. which i asked about on a other forum for another distro they said to replace the "seatbelt.kext" from 10.5.5 but where would i be able to find that kext

also in the about mac it showes my processor running at 200mhz but in windows its fine so im assuming its a bad reading

and last thing, is this distro able to use updates stright from apple or we have to wait till u release updates?

Graphics
For your 9800GX check this link out http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=98666
Remove any other kexts related to video and make sure to to properly set permissions.

Seatbelt
Give this seatbelt.kext a try. It should be pre 10.5.6 http://rapidshare.com/files/178549460/seatbelt.kext.zip

Installation
You can use kexthelper or refer to this post where manual installation has been described. http://www.infinitemac.com/f5/kernel...nt-file-t1834/

Let us know if it worked out for you. Also place your system specs in your signature. That will help us out.

Hi,just made my account here I was wondering if someone can tell me what drivers I need to install so things go as smoothly as they can.For you to tell me this, you need to know my hardware - so here goes:

CPU-Phenom 9830
GPU-ATI HD Radeon 3870 X2
Motherboard - Gigabyte MA790FX-DQ6
RAM 2x2GB DDR 800 = 4GB

So can someone pls tell me what drivers do I need to pick and for that matter how should I burn the image?...

You have the image file but have not burned it yet?

Windows
You can burn ISO files to disk using this ImgBurn (free): http://www.imgburn.com/

OSX

You can burn using Burn (free): http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/

Remember to burn at a slow speed and verify the disk as burning at your max speed may cause problems during installation.

We will start with your specs. Here is a link to your motherboards spec sheet. http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...GA-MA790FX-DQ6

Chipset: AMD 790FX + SB600
Audio: ALC889A
Lan: Realtek 8111B
Graphics: ATI HD Radeon 3870 X2

You want to make sure you only choose options which you are sure will work. Choosing the wrong driver or multiple drivers from the same category can sometimes cause problems.

Personally I would choose the bare minimum and no graphics drivers (Not choosing graphics drivers will give you 1024X768 default graphics) and then fix each issue one at a time. You can avoid a lot of problems and also learn what needs to be fixed and why. This is however not really the point for this distro as they have done a wonderful job at including almost every fix you can think of. I have read about issues with 790FX chipsets but Ill let others chime in on this.

I would do this.
1. Get the disk burned
2. Try to boot the disk
3. Create a new Thread/Post under the "Questions Problem & Support" section. I would name it something like "Install 10.5.6 on 790FX/SB600 with Phenom 9830"

If you can get into the installer then that's an obstacle you will have overcome.

When booting the DVD you will be given the chance to add boot-options. It should countdown and allow you to press F8 to add these options.
Use the following option:
Code:
-v
Verbose mode will display useful information instead of an apple logo. If you have problems booting the DVD then it should stop on a particular line and you can post that information on the forum.

4GB of memory may cause system freezes. There are two fixes I am aware of. You don't necessarily need to worry about it right now but just be away of random freezes.
1. Using the boot-flag maxmem will force OSX to only use the amount of memory you assign in megabytes. For example to limit your memory to 2GB or 2048MB it would go like this.
Code:
-v maxmem=2048
Notice the -v boot-flag discussed in the previous paragraph? You can use multiple boot flags by adding a single space between them.
2. There are patched 64bit kexts that fix the problem. I am using one at it works like a charm.
Also give this Thread a read. http://www.infinitemac.com/f5/succes...-leopard-t956/

I have found some problems - 'About this Mac' shows 3.7 GHz Intel Core Solo - I know about the Core Solo, but why 3.7 GHz? In System Profiler in 'Hardware' nothing is diplayed.

Say, was the original image from a Macbook? The Keyboard/Mouse prefs won't load, if you start the prefpane directly you get the one from a Macbook, including Trackpad and so on. I used the one from 10.5.5, now it's working. Carzy, I want to keep it as additional preferences pane, so I renamed it (filename and in the package) and installed it in /Library/PreferencesPanes. If I start it now I get a message 'You cannot open keyboard and mouse preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac'. Ha Ha ;-)

If you install from another system (not from DVD) the languages aren't installed properly. Finder etc. are only in English.

Finder 10.5.8 crashes/restarts if I want to open the Finder's Preferences, the same happens when closing a window. I also get sometimes kernel panics depending on the Finder. I had to resore to version 10.5.6.

By the way - the image still has integrated Quicktime 7.5.0. I created a reinstaller to Quicktime 7.4.5, only with this Quicktime is useable for me. But I'm not the only one who has problems with Quicktime 7.5 - also real Mac users have:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread....sageID=7523351
http://discussions.apple.com/thread....512000#7512000

Please can anyone do the same test as me: Run Activity Monitor with CPU History shown in Dock and play a movie which has an original size of 320x240 in DivX format using the actual Perian codec. Scale as big as possible, on my resolution this is 1307x960 pixel (with Dock shown). Quicktime 7.4.5 needs only 10% for this on my Athlon 64 4000+ (2.4 GHz), Quicktime 7.5 or 7.5.5 need more than 90% and stutters terrible. But the frame rate is always shown 25, the same problem what the guys in the Apple forum had.
