I use the Darwin boot loader. XP on HD 0,0 (IDE MBR) and Leopard on HD 0,1 (EFI GUID) - works fine for me, though I never boot into XP :-)

Thankfully no. I've been having these problems since day one on my system right back to 10.5.1, so the kernel is not the issue. I suspect its a hardware vs. kext issue thats causing my problem....

8 here. It would have been higher if it weren't for the occasional quirk or random restart from time to time - therefore stability lets the score down. Having said that, day to day use is very good...

I've got an NF570 board with Sata HD's and an IDE burner. No problems here with any of those aforementioned apps. I've ripped and burnt plenty of CDs and DVDs with no errors what so ever.

Oh, and if you don't like the Quicktime Player interface you could try NicePlayer (http://niceplayer.sourceforge.net) which is basically a nicer front end gui wrapper for Quicktime.

I really like VLC but I've had some minor issues with it. I would advise you to install Perian (http://perian.org) to play everything and anything from within the Quicktime Player and Quicklook.
