Try booting with DVD and reinstalling kernel 9.4.0 and system.kext. Did you install it manually or did you use kext helper? Maybe it was not properly installed.

maybe you shouldn't erase your partition. You can always make backup of actual kernel and system.kext so if kernel panic occurs when you install new kernel you can always restore it....
