Be sure your SATA Devices are set to AHCI mode....
Be sure your SATA Devices are set to AHCI mode. (Can be done in BIOS)
There can be all kinds of reasons as to why you might get this error, and believe me I've tried a ton of stuff to get past it on...

For snow leopard, be sure to set your CPU Frequency Multiplier in BIOS to x15 or less, this will downclock your CPU to 3GHz or less, any more GHz and you could face quite a few kernel panics....
