Enable AHCI if possible.
Try Leo4all v4.1 for AMD?
The firewire "error" you're seeing, isn't generally a problem. Most of us see it - and it doesn't stop OSx86 from running. "Still waiting for root..." usually means your motherboard chipset isn't properly supported. Read up on the SB600 - lots of posts. It can be done usually, I've been installing OSx86 on SB600 and SB700 chipsets for several months.
Running both 10.5.8 and 10.6.4 on my stinking AMD/ATi machine...
