I'm using final cut studio 2 on my osx_86 machine. So I know final cut pro works at least with osx retail 10.6.8. To install "final cut server" I had to open up a .plist file and change an entry in the installer.app that was very apparent like "<CheckRequirements>" to 0 from 1. The only reason I bring this up is as an idea, I don't know what your specific machine's problems are, and I am not familiar with final cut studio 3. I would suggest you get away from using a distro and learn how to install osx retail. Now that you have a "working" system create a partition and install a legit version, you will be happier with the results.
