Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on Dell Studio 1558 Core i5-430m

Hey everyone.

Thought I would start this Thread as there's no mention of the i5-430m.

Been doing a lot of thinking today (after originally looking at an ASUS K50IN) and have decided that something with a little more oomph is required.

I took a look at Dell this evening and the Inspiron 1545 looks like quite a good option. From searching the forums, looks like quite a compatible bit of kit.

However, I got clicking on better things (as often happens) and am looking at a Dell Studio 15 (1558) with the Intel Core i5-430M.

The spec is :

Intel� Core� i5-430M (2.26Ghz, 4Threads, turbo boost up to 2.53GHz, 3MB cache)
4GB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048]
500GB (5400RPM) Serial ATA Hard Drive

15.6 inch High Definition (1366x768) WLED
Genuine Windows� 7 Home Premium, 64bit

The price today is �549 (Reduced by �269)

So, back to searching the forums. Looks like the ATI card is doable (without CI and QE - at least for now) but the question I had was about the i5-430m chipset (ie. Sound, CPU, board itself).

I realise that some i5's are supported at the moment - but these are in towers? I'm willing to go for it and chance it, if it's likely to work - even if a bit of work is required - but it'll be a wasted investment if the i5-430m will be completely useless for a Hackintosh project.

I may consider getting it and using Win7 for a bit if there is news of support in the pipeline. But that's a big if.

Any ideas?

How hide EFI Partition?

Hi guys!

I was trying some things and I execute the comand below:

diskutil eraseVolume "HFS+" "EFI" /dev/disk0s1

To erase my EFI partition and install chameleon rc4 again, but now the EFI partition stay on desktop.

There is some way to hide EFI Partition again?

Maybe some obscure diskutil command?

Please help!

HandBrake Crash

I'm trying to use HandBrake to make m4v's for my son's Zune or iPod Touch, but it keeps crashing.

A friend recommended stopping and re-starting Growl, which i installed and did.

Empire EFI - Still Waiting for Root Device

I have tried every living thing to get Empire EFI to boot on my pc. (well, probably not, or it would be working, xD)
I own Leopard 10.5.4 and Snow Leopard 10.6 retail discs and I keep getting an error message.
I can boot Empire EFI but But I get error message "Still Waiting for Root Device" in a loop.

Im using the latest version of Empire EFI - Chameleon v2.0-RC4

Hardware specs. I have NO additional kexts or anything for the hardware, as im a Mac Nooby and do not really comprehend the whole system (terminal and all)

Intel DG35EC - From what I have read, this is a VERY good board for installing OS X
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 Ghz
2x Kingston DDR2 667 MHZ 1024mb sticks
500 GB Seagate SATA HDD - Would it make a difference for it to be plugged in Sata 1 or sata 0 on the mobo?
Memorex DVD/CD drive - IS IDE. i do not know if this is my problem or not.
PNY GTS 250 Graphics card 1024mb ddr3
Random PCI networking card. some linksys one.

I currently have Windows 7 32bit installed but left 200 gb on a seperate partition for my Mac Install.

I dont have a camera, and the macbook pro one im on currently has a damaged webcam, so I typed the code by hand.

i search and found 1 result saying I should add in myself but how?

VMWare iATKOS kernel panic

I will probably regret wasting my time here, but here goes:

I am now trying to install iATKOS 5i on VMWare workstation 7. Since using my dvd makes the installer freeze and won't let me eject the disc, I am using my image in D�mon tools.

I installed, and when I boot up, I get a kernel panic. When I do verbose or single user, I get one, just without the GUI. I have pictures below.
[The one with the box of doom is normal, no boot flags; with the UNIX crapz, -s, -v]

Please help!!!

OSx doesn't load from external HDD

I successfully installed 10.5.6 using iPC on my external hard drive but I cant seem to get it to load automatically.
I changed the boot order to usb hard drive as being first, but it still loads up windows 7, which is present on my laptop internal hard drive!

If i leave the iPC installation dvd, and if i boot it with
-v boot-uuid="MY EXTERNAL'S UUID HERE"

it loads into mac osx after 4-6 minutes!

Is there a way i could load into mac osx automatically? I dont want to go through the pain of typing my long UUID number everytime!!

And also, if anyone could help me regarding the problem of why I cannot format/erase/partition my internal hard drive. It gives me input/output error!
If this problem is fixed, I would certainly install it on my internal hard drive and osx should certainly boot up!

Please guys, Help me here!

Hello, 00010 here again... I was wondering if anyone has had any success with this little Netbook and OSx86?

I have done alot of research on this model. but nothing turn up.

Even by individul parts, I got leopard to boot on it but the keyboard but not the trackpad worked.

I just patched a LIVE DMG image of Leopard 10.5.4 to boot a full installation of Leopard and you can use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the USB drive to your internal HD. So basicly you boot a FULLY working Leopard from a USB stick, then you clone it to your HD and your done.

VoodooPower 1.2.3 for Snow Leopard 32/64bit

I've remade VoodooPower 1.2.3 with my extensions for Snow Leopard.
This one is 64bit fully ready.
You may not use Disabler.kext with this installed or the kext will not be loaded.
You also can not use this kext with vanilla kernels (it will panic because of some routines used inside).
